Just like the No Step Drill the One Step Drill is pretty self explanatory. Kick the football through the uprights using only one step. This drill will help you focus on proper plant foot stepping and positioning, which will allow you to make good foot to ball contact. Take a look at the steps and video below to make sure your getting the most out of the One Step Drill.

  1. Take one step back and one step to the left or right, depending on which foot you kick with.
  2. Place your kicking foot in front of your plant foot and point it to the football.
  3. In an athletic stance lean your body forward, putting your weight on your kicking foot, push off your kicking leg and step with your plant leg landing in proper position.
  4. Swing your leg and kick the football.
  5. Repeat 10 times or until you feel ready to move onto Full Kicks.

Tips:
  • Like the No Step Drill, use your plant foot to push your body through the football on contact for maximum transfer of forward momentum to the football.

It’s important to focus on using good technique rather than making the field goal.  This drill will help you focus on proper plant foot stepping and positioning, which will allow you to make good foot to ball contact.  This is also a good drill to do before taking a Full Kick.
